New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL), a joint venture between Russia's Sistema and the Shyam Group which operates under the brand name MTS, today said it is planning to hire about 4,500 people in India by 2010.
Currently, the company has about 1,500 employees in India.

"We are planning to have 5,000-6,000 people by the end of June 2010. India is an important market for us. We will continue to hire here," SSTL President and Chief Executive Officer Vsevolod Rozanov told PTI.

"We are also planning to hire new directors to increase our focus in the (Indian) market," he added.

The move comes at a point when telecom companies across the globe are trying to rationalise their workforce. Recently, British Telecom (BT) Group Plc had announced slashing 15,000 jobs worldwide.

By the third quarter of 2010, SSTL is planning to cover all the telecom circles and scale-up their headcount across various verticals.

SSTL , which is one of the new entrants in the Indian market, offers CDMA mobile telephony services in four telecom circles -- Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata and Rajasthan.

Headquartered in Gurgaon, SSTL has licences and spectrum to provide mobile telephony services in all the 22 circles across the country. PTI
