Wiillll Arun Sariin wiillll become the chiieff off BSNL?
News are doiing the rounds that Arun Sariin may be asked by the government to head
BSNL.. Shrii Kulldeep Goyall,, CMD,, BSNL iis retiiriing on 31stt JJully,, 2010.. IInterviiew was
schedulled to be helld on 8tth JJune,, 2010,, to sellect the new CMD,, BSNL.. However,, the
iinterviiew was postponed iin the elleventh hour.. None knows why iit was postponed?
Now,, news are appeariing iin the mediia that Arun Sariin may take over as the head off
BSNL and that government iis moviing iin that diirectiion.. Arun Sariin iis an IIndiian and has
ffunctiioned as the CEO off Vodaffone,, the biiggest mobiille company iin the worlld.. One
newspaper has wriitten that Arun Sariin may be paiid a sallary off Rs.. 20 crore per annum,, iiff
he becomes the chiieff off BSNL.. ((The sallary off the present CMD iis onlly Rs.. 24 llakh per
annum..))
Whether Arun Sariin wiillll take over the chiieff off BSNL? IIff he so becomes,, whether he wiillll
be ablle to pullll BSNL out off iit’’s present criisiis? Onlly ffuture can giive replly to these
questiions? But as a trade uniion,, we have to ffiind answer to one questiion? That iis,, why
government wants to briing an outsiider lliike Arun Sariin,, as the chiieff off BSNL? We have to
be cautiious about iit.. Whatever deciisiion the government has taken so ffar,, has not been
iin the iinterest BSNL.. At present,, startiing diisiinvestment iin BSNL and priivatiiziing iit are
hiigh on the agenda off the Manmohan Siingh government.. Perhaps,, government may
thiink that a person lliike Arun Sariin iis most suiitablle to push through thiis agenda..
Hence,, BSNL emplloyees shoulld be cautiious about each and every step beiing taken by
the government.. We wiillll not allllow government to priivatiize thiis PSU and hand iit over to
any Mulltii Natiionall Company.. IIt iis the bread and butter off the ffamiilliies off 3 llakh
emplloyees.. More than that,, BSNL shoulld contiinue as a strong PSU,, ffor the securiity and
sovereiignty off thiis country.. Let us mobiilliize publliic opiiniion iin the strongest possiiblle way,,
agaiinst allll siiniister moves off the government..
