"Finance Minister was not available today," a government official said, adding that next date for the meeting is yet to be decided. Sources at Finance Ministry said that the Finance Minister had to travel to Chennai and hence he was not available for the meeting. The GoM is headed by Finance Minister P Chidambaram. It was constituted after Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh raised concerns over the future of the two loss making PSUs. BSNL losses are expected to be about Rs 8,198 crore, and that of MTNL is likely to be around Rs 3,300 crore for the financial year 2012-13. Members of the GoM include the Telecom Minister, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office V Narayanasamy. PTI First Published: Friday, May 10, 2013, 09:11 COMMENTS no comment-govardhan -nellore It is one of the most important to think & act immediately to regain the earlier status to BSNL/MTNL both are state owned PSU companiesOne should know very clearly that till the financial year 2010, BSNL was under profit only & also it is very clear that even after becoming a state owned company it could be able to render very good sevice to the public & also generating considerable profit till the finacial year 2005-06But in the onward journey BSNL profit margin has comedown, how ever it was in the positive side of revenue earning with stiff competation from many private operators Now for the past 2 to 3 years BSNL has became one of the loss making PSU companySo now the realistic & whole hearted introspection is most essential to bring it back & put it on right track why all these things are because, management has went with so many excersises to improve the quality of servies, puntcuality, discipline & behavioural attitude with the public but all were futile, with all these measures-Shankar -Bangalore Postal department which is with GOI hardly seen any profit! Like this there are handful of departments with govtof india which never spell any profit but mounting expendituresThey all service oriented! BSNL on the other hand not only giving service but shown profit also in yester years Govt should properly safeguard the interest of BSNL because BSNL means Best Service in Normal Levy!-V.Sivakumar -Chennai The GOMs should think the issue of revival of BSNL/MTNL seriously and bail out them from the clutches of greedy MOCs who have spoiled the working of BSNL by their interfering at every stage of equipment purchase/cancelling tenders and making policies beneficial to private Telcos which has culminated in 2G scamThe amounts due to BSNL like refund of BWA spectrum fees which was surrendered in 2011 should be forthwith paid back to BSNLVRS can also be given both in BSNL/MTNL and the cost should be borne by the Govtsince all of these employees taking VRS were DOT recruited staff and not BSNL staffThe USO fund for Rural services also should be paid liberally instead of paying only very small amount at the instance of TRAI who was never kind to BSNL/MTNL-KoteswaraRao.Nerella -Hyderabad psu telecom companies should be allowed to function professionally without government interference like private telecom companiesPublic sector telecom companies definitely will grow if the same facility extended to private sector telecom companies-shivaramakrishnan -chennai
