The results of the elections conducted to the Parliament in Pakistan has come. The PML-N is set to from the next government and Nawaz Sharif is set to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the third time. It is heartening to note that despite a boycott call given by the Taliban, 60% of the eligible voters have voted in the elections. This is the first time after independence of Pakistan that power is being handed over by one elected government to another elected government. (This is because the Pakistani military used to overthrow the elected governments and capture power.) During his election campaign, Nawaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan should move towards better relations with India, to resolve the remaining issues through peaceful means, including the Kashmir problem. He has also promised to investigate the role of the ISI in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. Definitely these are good signs for better relations between India and Pakistan.
