BSNL staff called off proposed indefinite strike from june 12

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) Employees Union called off the proposed indefinite strike from 12th June 2013 after BSNL Managements issued order for their long-pending demands including payment 78.2 % industrial dearness allowance (IDA) fitment which has been cleared by the Cabinet. The settlement of 78.2% IDA merger, effectively 100% IDA neutralization will take place w.e.from 01.01.2007. The basic pay will be increased by almost 6%, which is equivalent to a “double promotion”. This can be treated as a mini pay revision considering the present financial condition of the company. For a serving BSNL Executive, the pay hike will be ranging from Rs 3000/ to Rs 4500/- and for the  pensioners, the hike in pension will be more than Rs 2000/ per month quotes SNEA on its official website.
The  strike call off will definitely help BSNL from loosing revenue and customer but how BSNL will bear this extra burden in term of salaries paid to more than 2.5 Lakh employees. BSNL, the state owned telecom operator is expected to declare lower losses at Rs. 8,198. In 2011-12, it had reported losses of Rs. 8,851 crore. BSNL has been logging losses since 2009-10. The company’s profits had started declining after 2004-05, when it had made net gains of Rs. 10,183 crore. During 2010–11, BSNL losses had risen to Rs. 6,384 crore mainly due to hefty outgo on salaries and expenses borne by the PSU for procuring 3G and BWA spectrum.
